From Toppers to Vintage: Battle for Prestigious Crossley Holland Trophy in Overy Staithe Regatta

The Overy Staithe Regatta saw a spirited race for the 'Crossley Holland Trophy', with a mixed fleet of 40 boats sailing in pursuit.

In an extraordinary mix of expertise, technology, and sheer sailing spirit, the Overy Staithe Regatta unfolded, a canvas of 40 various boats, ranging from Toppers to vintage International 14 and local designs like Stiffkey Cockles to Twinkle Twelves, competing towards one goal, the ‘Crossley Holland Trophy’. The trophy, sailed under pursuit principles, marks a key part of the club’s annual regatta, setting the scene for a thrilling nautical experience.

This year, the Race Officers Bernard Clark and Will Worsley designed a challenging course which spread from marks C, E, D and A on a two-lap circuit. The race signaled off from the club line on the sea wall and concluded at the quay amidst cheers and eager anticipation.

The unexpected twist paved the way for Pete Turner, sailing on his ‘OK’. His victory was closely followed by Alex Scoles and Spike Turner, claiming the second and third places respectively. Among the double handed boats, Alex Smith and Paul Beachell led the race, taking the 4th place. The junior category saw promising talent with Sam Worsley taking the 14th position.

All in all, the Overy Staithe Regatta, and particularly the race for the ‘Crossley Holland Trophy’, was a thrilling spectacle of mixed fleets, skilful sailing, and the unpredictability of the ocean waves, presenting a fantastic spectacle for any lover of the sea.
