High Stakes Afloat: The Singular Challenge of the Seldén Sailjuice Winter Series

Published: 03 Nov 2025
For the seventeenth time, the much-acclaimed Seldén Sailjuice Winter Series takes to UK waters, securing its spot on every water-pressed contender's calendar.

The Seldén Sailjuice Winter Series is back and better than ever. As it sails into its 17th edition, it promises to be yet another thrilling season for the travellers’ circuit, thrilling not just UK’s small boat classes but sailors from all parts of the globe. Hosting eight exciting events this season, the series pits competitors from nearly a hundred different types of boats against each other. To gain a shot at the fabled overall title, competitors must make their mark by garnering their four best scores. With title sponsorship from long-time supporter Seldén Mast, the heritage of the series promises to remain robust even in the years of challenging Covid lockdowns. 2015 champions Tom Gillard and Rachael Gray are testament to the greatness that the Series offers competitors. Their assertive performance in the 2024/25 season set them on a trajectory for spectacular success in the summer’s variety of dinghy classes. Gillard’s triumphs in the Fireball Australian Nationals, Fireball UK Nationals, Fireball Inlands, Salcombe Merlin Week, Merlin Nationals, Scorpion Nationals, Streaker Nationals and Lark Nationals speak volumes about his prowess and strategic drive. Although they missed the Fireball Worlds held in Lake Garda, Gillard still endorses the ‘hiking class’ and Fireball events as adrenaline-pumping opportunities to stay race-ready even during the colder months. Previous season’s winner, Sam Pascoe, who cruised to victory in his Musto Skiff, attributes part of his world title success to the challenging winter training. He looks forward to the 25/26 series, where he intends to compete alongside his son, Benjamin. Their teaming up will be something to watch out for. With such high levels of competition and camaraderie, the 17th edition of the Seldén Sailjuice Winter Series promises to be a perfect storm of excitement and adventure.
