The Unprecedented Championship Attempt in PRO-SET Epoxy and Ovington Boats Flying Fifteen Worlds
The fourth day of PRO-SET Epoxy and Ovington Boats Flying Fifteen Worlds witnessed something unexpected. The fleet had an early start at the WPNSA with an aim to complete three races, to bring the event back on track. A robust North Easterly, with gusts peaking at 20 knots, was awaited - a repeat of Tuesday’s weather, which had eventually died out after just one race.
The action of winds remained in favor on this day, enabling three exhilarating races. However, these races were not devoid of challenges, as there was an apparent lack of discipline marked by general recalls on the second and third races of the day. Race Officer Mark ‘Woodsy’ Woods intervened, reinstating order during the second attempt of each start by waving the Black Flag.
Day 4 also saw the 2005 World Champion, Nick Jerwood, from South of Perth Yacht Club in Australia, and his teammate Greg Tonnison, vault up the rankings into the sixth position. Their result of third, second, and fourth boosted their performance, lifting them from a mediocre position. Jerwood commented, ‘Two good starts and one bad start, but we managed to pull ourselves out of the mire in the last race’ .
In short, this day at the PRO-SET Epoxy and Ovington Boats Flying Fifteen Worlds offered a spectacular display of agility, strategy, and verve among the sailors, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.
