A Double Dose of Thrills: Spectacular Performances at Subic Regatta and Antigua Racing Cup 2026
At Subic Bay in the Philippines, the BPI Series 2026 Regatta unfolded amidst an atmosphere of intense competition. With the breeze set at 110 degrees, Race Officer (RO) Simon James set the scene for a challenging windward/leeward race. One of the high drama moments involved Centennial III attempting an audacious manoeuvre which resulted in a ‘gentlemanly altercation’ with Belatrix. Off the race track, an enthralling commingling of the Cruiser and Multihull divisions ensued. The IRC race was dominated by Ridgely Balladares on Centennial VII, crossing the finish line in just 55 minutes. Yet the glory on corrected time went to James Villareal’s Raw Honey, outpacing Belatrix by a mere 22 seconds.
If these early scenes are anything to go by, spectators can expect a captivating sailing season in 2026, with waves of excitement washing over Subic Bay and the island of Antigua.
