Braving Light Winds, Hamble Winter Series 2025's Second Race Week Sails Successfully Through recalcitrant Tides

The triumph of determination in the face of challenging winds marks the second race week of the Hamble Winter Series 2025, sponsored by Force 4 Chandlery.

The Hamble Winter Series of 2025’s second race week has proven to be a heartening highlight of the season. Despite grumbling winds and playful tides playing mischief in the Solent, the enthusiasm of the participants and organisers was far from dampened. On the contrary, these very challenges breathed an exhilarating life into the event, sponsored by Force 4 Chandlery.

Week two of the series began with discussion centered on the deficient wind for the weekend, especially on Saturday. But Peter Bateson and his race team stood undeterred by the unfavourable weather predictions. Instead, their unyielding spirit reflected in motivating messages sent to the fleet, expressing their intent to ‘go out and try!’

In a testament to the perseverance of all parties involved, a substantial turnout of 38 teams undisputedly made their presence felt on the waters. Protis and Mako brilliantly stole the limelight by collecting three bullets each in the IRC 3 and IRC 1 classes, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jambo led IRC 2 with ten points, having the J109s, Jukebox and Jeanie nipping at its heels. Throughout the race, teams exhibited commendable resilience, exemplifying the best traits of sailors while bringing a competitive edge to the second race week.

The Hamble Winter Series 2025’s second race week thus underlined the unpredictability of sailing coupled with the thrill it brings. It served as proof that the wind’s whim or lack thereof doesn’t drive the sailor’s spirit. And the tide’s mischief is but a minor hurdle in their pursuit of adventure. Above all, it reasserted sailing’s fundamental truth: the thrill is in journey, not just the destination!
