Exhilarating Start to Howth YC Dinghy Frostbites Spring Series and Showdown Between Family Rivals
Spellbinding are the tales spun on the waters, and the recent Howth Yacht Club Dinghy Frostbites Spring Series served up a captivating spectacle worthy of a bard’s song. The first day of the series greeted the sailors with a quintessential wintry scene — icy winds, sheets and sails ensnared by stubborn ice, but spirits undeterred by the chilly weather.
As the competitors launched, the hardy sailors battled against a substantial westerly breeze, navigating through long beats and encountering heart-pounding closeness at the mark roundings. A testament to the sailor’s formidable skills and the gloriously unpredictable nature of sailing.
Dan O’Connell emerged triumphant in the ILCA 7 fleet, followed by Peter Hassett’s victory in the ILCA 6 fleet. Daragh Sheridan, sailing on his RS Aero, led the PY fleet, chalking up an impressive win in Race 1 and a commendable second position in Race 2.
The Dinghy Frostbites Spring Series attests to the thriving sailing culture, fostering competition, championing skills, and sharing grand adventure tales that unfurl against the majestic backdrop of the open sea and, in this instance, the crunch of ice underfoot.
