An Unforgettable Day on the Water: The Cutthroat Contest at the GP14 National Championship 2025
Day 4 of the Ripe Craftinsure GP14 National Championship 2025 was a clash of Titans at the Tenby Sailing Club. With a new southwest wind providing a steady 8-10 knots and a challenging long beat against the tide, it was a day for the books.
As the race got underway, teams Barnham and Sexton displayed extraordinary speed, punching out of the middle of the line. The rest of the fleet, however, tacked off to the right, seeking to escape the tide. While the first beat was crowded, the majority of the teams anchored themselves on the right side of the course, masterfully working the shifts.
The second beat marked a triumphant shift in favor of Team McGuinness, who did a double tackle ranking them in the driver’s seat at the top of the beat. Barnham/Sexton closely followed in hot pursuit. The rest of the positions maintained consistency, with Barnham/Devereux and the Cormacks surpassing the Sinclairs to land in fourth.
By the end of the race, Barnham/Sexton widened their lead, securing their spot at the top. The Cormacks then launched into third place, right behind Team McGuinness. Barnham/Devereux managed to seal their spot in third, rounding off a spectacular day of racing.
Off the water, the team members enjoyed a night on the town, bringing a perfect day to a perfect close. Looking forward to another race day, three races were planned to compensate for the cancellation due to high sea state and poor visibility.
