Discover the Unparalleled Excitement of the ILCA Northern Series 2025
A host of sailing talents from across the country showcased their prowess in the ILCA Northern Series 2025. With thirteen stirring events held at various prestigious venues like Leigh & Lowton and brisk water bodies like Delph and Pennine, the series celebrated the robust Northern ILCA fleet.
A noteworthy count of 128 sailors demonstrated their skill, endurance, and spirit, counting their best five results from thirteen possible events. This format, aimed at bolstering broad participation, allowed sailors the flexibility to change rigs between events, adding to the dynamism and complexity of the competition. Among these participants, the young sailors’ gallant attempts to overthrow Ian Jones, synonymous with victory for 28 consecutive years, were commendable.
Jostling for the pedestal, Lewis Bacon secured second place overall, finishing just a single point behind Jones. Bacon’s performance was peppered with some impressive podium finishes and a staggering 6th position in the ILCA6 fleet comprising 83 sailors at Weymouth. The pressure is now on Bacon to eclipse Jones’ remarkable legacy in the upcoming 2026 series before he ventures off to university.
Tim Keighley, with his steady performance across multiple circuits, seized third place. Keighley’s determination was evident as he sailed every event, consistently marking his presence on the podium.
Further down the pecking order, Wendy Jones, and Will Taylor rounded out the top five positions, adding further glory to their respective teams.
The ILCA Northern Series 2025, with its gripping competition and awe-inspiring performances, promises an even more exciting 2026 series, as Lewis Bacon will try to dismantle Ian Jones’ years of dominance.
