John Bacon's Edge is the latest entrant for the fast-growing fleet of the Pallas Capital Gold Cup, promising high adrenaline adventure.

Setting a thrilling stage, John Bacon’s Edge has arrived in Australia to become part of the emerging Pallas Capital Gold Cup fleet. The Dunning 44, in her adventurous journey, brings with it a skilled crew which includes several top-flight sailors from previous TP52 programs, promising intense competition among the Super40 ensemble.

Katie Spithill, who previously helmed the Hooligan program at the final event of the LGT Wealth Management Australia Cup last season, has joined Bacon’s team as a strategist. Keen to get started, she mentioned that the boat was constructed locally at McConaghy’s in Mona Vale before setting sail for the United States.

In an ebullient statement, she commented on the boat’s return to its birthplace following Bacon’s overseas regatta expedition. She also highlighted her curiosity and anticipation to understand the boat better and commended the continued growth of the Pallas Capital Gold Cup.

The yacht, Edge, is a specialised Dunning 44, constructed by the renowned McConaghy Yachts in 2020 for a US owner. Bacon acquired the boat in 2022, with Edge’s maiden event being the New York Yacht Club Race Week during the same year. Now residing in Australia, the yacht is all set to showcase its prowess on home waters leading up to the Pallas Capital Gold Cup.

The team’s tactician, Darren ‘Twirler’ Jones, remarked the boat’s freshness to the Australian circuit and hinted at an exciting learning curve owing to some modifications made since its last race. He believes preparation has gone well but admitted they’re entering uncharted waters. Jones concluded by stating that ’time will tell’ regarding the yacht’s performance at the cup. The Edge certainly looks sharp and ready to cut through the waves and expectations at the Pallas Capital Gold Cup.
