Day One of Cape 31 European Championship 2025: Farragut, High Spirits, and Shotgunn's Sensational Stride
The long-awaited Cape 31 European Championship 2025 commenced in the beautiful city of Palma. The fleet headed out on the opening day full of eager anticipation, ready to pounce at the hint of a breeze forecasted to grace them around noon. Despite the conditions remaining light for much of the morning, the teams’ spirits were high as they waited patiently on the water, readied for the first gust of the championship.
Race Two witnessed Akheilos heading at the top mark, followed by Pacific Yankee and Firstings. However, an unexpected rain shower completely halted the breeze and any momentum built was abruptly ceased. With no respite in sight, the racing committee decided to cease racing for the day and sent the fleet ashore.
In the evening at the club, teams were greeted with refreshments, tapas, and a warm welcome from Club President Rafael Gil March. The first daily prize-giving ceremony, hosted by Commodore Jorge Forteza Castro, was a festive occasion celebrating the day’s winners and the brotherhood that epitomizes this competitive fleet.
Among the celebrations, Shotgunn owner and skipper, Michael Wilson, conveyed his delight at their victory. He commended the team’s exemplary sailing and high focus attributed to their success. He expressed that kicking off the regatta with a win was a fantastic start to the championship.
As racing continues tomorrow with an optimistic forecast, the Cape 31 fleet is geared up for an exciting continuation of the 2025 European Championship. An impressive beginning has set the tone - now all look forward to the strategies, shifts and victories that the coming days will bring.
