Edgartown Race Weekend Transitions Back to July for its 89th Edition

Published: 03 Aug 2025
In a bid to avoid conflicts with other regattas and uphold tradition, Edgartown Yacht Club recently announced the shift of the Edgartown Race Weekend's 'RTI Race' from June back to July.

Mark your calendars for July 25, 2026, as the Edgartown Race Weekend, with its top-billing ‘Round-the-Island (‘RTI) Race, makes a calendar shift from its recent June slot. This move, decided by the Edgartown Yacht Club, aims to minimize potential clashes with other regattas and to keep alive the longstanding tradition of holding the race in July.

The ‘RTI Race, held at Martha’s Vineyard, is widely distinguished as one of the oldest and most esteemed distance events in yacht racing. With 88 successful editions under its belt, the race is set to continue its proud legacy on its 89th run, planned for late July in 2026.

Not only is the ‘RTI revered for its competitive spirit, but it is also known for its visually magnificent 55-mile route that wraps around the picturesque Martha’s Vineyard. This potentially challenging yet rewarding course consistently captivates both seasoned sailors and offshore sailing novices.

Stakes in these races are high, with trophies such as the prestigious Venona Trophy up for grabs. This particular award traces its roots back to the very origins of the race in 1938, adding a touch of revered prestige to the event.

In an effort to build anticipation and ensure a strong turnout, the announcement of the date shift has been made well in advance. Event Co-Chair Cindy Alten-Delotto conveys the hope that all past participants will mark this important date in their calendars and spread the good news. Furthermore, she adds that the currents for this date are positive and if this July’s winds are indicative of the winds during the race day, the participants can expect an exciting sail. All signs point towards an epic race come 2026. So, get prepping!
