A New Dawn for Sailing: The Philippines open the Big Boat Sailing Season with the Thrilling 10th BPI Busuanga Cup
Early morning on the 29th of January saw an excited fleet of 14 boats cross the starting line at Punta Fuego Yacht Club in Nasugbu, Batangas. They were not just embarking on a demanding 135-nautical-mile offshore race to Black Island in Busuanga but setting sail on a journey that aims to etch the Philippines onto the global map of premier sailing destinations. The BPI Busuanga Cup, jointly hosted by BPI Private Wealth and the Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation (PHINSAF), boasted of more than just an adrenaline-inducing race; it united the sailing fraternity in their shared commitment towards marine conservation.
In this 10th edition, 14 boats clashed against each other across three categories: IRC Racing Class, Ocean Multihull Class, and Cruising Class. Their ultimate docking station was the Marina del Sol Yacht Club, which also played host to the awards event.
Sustainability remains at the core of the BPI Private Wealth Signature Yacht Race Series. Alongside the responsibility of upholding the thrilling competition, the organizers continue to drive home the message about the shared responsibility of preserving the azure waters that unite the sailing fraternity. This is strengthened by their continued partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Philippines.
As BPI Wealth’s President and CEO, Maria Theresa Marcial fittingly said, ‘Events like this reflect our commitment to promoting the sport while encouraging stewardship of our seas.’ Indeed, as the BPI Busuanga Cup continues to weave enchanting tales of thrilling races and marine conservation, the dawn of a new era in Philippine sailing seems to have just begun.
