Musto Skiff class members have confidently cast their ballots for the embraced inclusion of the Mainsail X, heralding an exhilarating new era for sailing.

A memorable milestone in sailing history has just been marked; the Musto Skiff class members in the 2025 season have cast an emphatic vote favoring the expanded use of the Mainsail X at organised events. According to the International Committee, the majority of votes landed on the ‘Lighter Restrictions - Lower Penalty’ option, accounting for 36% of the total vote. A significant display of confidence in this innovative mainsail offering greater flexibility in their sailing adventures.

Brennan Robinson, the Musto Skiff class International Chairman, articulates the palpable excitement regarding this pioneering step towards a more inclusive racing environment. In his view, the integration of the Mainsail X into fleet racing is no longer a mere experiment or flirtation with innovation. It has now been fully embraced, concluded from the dozens of Mainsail X’s currently in circulation.

To elaborate, all sailors must nominate a primary sail size before the first race. Following that, sailors can switch sail sizes with prior notice, wherein a reduced scoring penalty applies. Notably, Grand Master and Legend sailors (anyone aged 55 and over) are exempt from the penalty and enjoy the leverage to change sail size. However, sailors who switch sail sizes cannot vie for a top three overall result. These balanced measures ensure a fair and thrilling competition amidst the fresh winds brought by the Mainsail X.
