The Prized Jongert Sailing Yacht Gloria Changes Hands: A Nod to the Golden Age of Sailing With Modern Acuity
There’s something captivating about the past meeting the present, and the celebrated Gloria, a 38.4-meter Jongert sailing yacht, embodies this harmonious confluence of time. Recently, this timeless icon switched hands, with Manfred Haas representing the seller and Barney Sandeman introducing the buyer.
Gloria’s design earns it the distinction of being a tribute to the 1936 Mylne schooner Panda. Its steel hull, aluminium superstructure swathed in mahogany, and aluminium masts are a testament to a bygone boating era. Yet, a substantial refit between 2011 and 2012 assures that the beauty doesn’t just lie in nostalgia.
The stay sail schooner has been fitted with modern sailing standards, continually upgraded to preserve its classic charm effortlessly while accommodating contemporary tech. The sweeping alterations highlight its desire to blend the old with the new while upholding its rich maritime heritage.
The accommodation on this yacht is lavish, offering room for eight guests across four ensuite cabins. The pièce de résistance is the grand owner’s cabin, distinguished with elegant library walls, plush sofas, and a generously proportioned bed in the center. Additional facilities cater to a crew of six.
Gloria’s deck saloon and cockpit are a sight to behold, offering expansive entertainment areas complemented by panoramic views of the open ocean. The deck saloon is home to a U-shaped sofa and a game table located adjacent to the helm. Meanwhile, the cockpit comes with an optional awning, providing seating and a table for al fresco dining. Gloria’s deck ensures there’s never a dull moment for the guests, furnished with an expansive space for storing the tender, water sporting equipment, loungers for sunbathing, and a versatile awning that stretches from bow to stern.
Underlining its prime readiness for chartering, Gloria is equipped with hydraulically furled sails, a steel hull, and a fully upgraded rig and deck. A Caterpillar diesel engine powers this sailing marvel, enabling top speeds of 12 knots. Finally, although Gloria’s glory has been rightfully restored while preserving its classic charm, it was last asking for €2,600,000 and is now set to embark on new adventures in sailing excellence.
