Recall your sheer childhood joy of water adventures, as this tale uniquely captures the romantic transition from canoe paddling to sailing an elegant yacht.

Who doesn’t enjoy the euphoria of life’s simplest pleasures? For our protagonist, this euphoria was birthed on the local rivers and canals of his hometown, aboard a Canadian canoe built by his father. These were the days of delightful exploration, paddling down the River Wye to the tune of the dawn chorus, or gallantly navigating a kayak alone across the harbour during a family camping trip.

As years soared by, life found Tim Steel and his lovely wife Annette celebrating more of their days on the South Devon coast. By 2017, Tim’s exploration cravings had outgrown a paddle’s purpose, drawing him into the captivating world of modern maritime vessels. Here, he found comfort and excitement in the XO 270, a cool, fast, and seaworthy charmer that transported them across the majestical coastlines of South Devon and Cornwall. However, frequent day trips were the limit of this platform.

The quest for the ideal ‘bigger boat,’ capable of hosting grander adventures, began. Their wishlist included desiring a vessel capable of comfortably cruising the Channel Islands, France, Scillies, Wales, and Ireland for weeks on end. The boat needed to be spacious, consisting of two well-equipped cabins, a workable galley, and a comfortable heads with a good shower. Size was also a factor, decking a boat that is not greater than 40ft for easy harbour manoeuvering and reducing docking costs. Finally, it had to be smooth riding, stylish, and durable enough to persevere the test of time.

The journey explored various brands, planing and semi-displacement boats. However, the journey concluded on deck of a Dale Classic 37, a vessel that harmonized every note in their wishlist. This exquisite boat is an impressive display of excellent craftsmanship, superior seamanship, and striking heritage - a dream come true for Tim and his family
