Tom Gruitt, an illustrious sailing photographer known for his remarkable talent and charismatic personality, has sadly passed away at just 37.

Hailing as a celebrated photographer, writer, and video editor, Tom Gruitt was not just a professional associate but also a beloved friend to many. Leaving an indelible mark on the sailing world, his impactful and affable aura never failed to touch hearts. Beyond his captivating clicks was a young man with an inherent wisdom that defied his age. Known for his friendly, nonchalant demeanor, Gruitt first came into the sailing limelight via a work-stint at ‘Yachts & Yachting’. It wasn’t long before his sheer talent and genuine fit with the team were discovered. His aspirations towards becoming a sailing photographer manifested via the ‘fotoboat collective’ and eventually led to his role as an editorial assistant. His initial moniker of ‘LT’ or ‘Little Tom’, given due to a namesake in the office, quickly transcended to that of the ‘Picture Editor’, courtesy of his sharp mind, keen eye for detail, and relentless zest to learn. Fast forward a few years, and Gruitt was a force to be reckoned with in the world of sailing photography, striving for perfection, and twice-nominated for the prestigious ‘Yacht Racing Image Award’. Gruitt was a beacon of authenticity and joy in the workplace, with a vibrant sense of humor that often left his colleagues in stitches. A lover of Irish coffee and an adventurer at heart, he enthusiastically took up the challenge to complete a transatlantic Clipper Race from Azores to Rio in 2009. Ever the pragmatist, Gruitt’s unique perspective on life and his immersive experiences will forever leave a legacy in the sailing world.
