Revamp of Anchoring Life by Sleipner's Hybrid Power Centre
While the exhilarating freedom of sailing is undeniably drawn from the powerful roar and hum of heavy-duty diesel engines, it does have its flip side: the incessant growl and fumes that can detract from an otherwise serene anchorage at a pristine bay. Adding to the noise are the auxiliary generators, fulfilling the critical role of powering the ancillary systems of your magnificent motor yacht. But what if one could enjoy the same auxiliary power minus the auditory discomfort and harmful emissions? An innovative solution from Sleipner, a leading Norwegian marine technology company, aims to offer just that. They have developed what they aptly christen the Hybrid Power Centre system (HPC).
The crux of this revolutionary technology is the quantum of efficiency it offers. Even at idle speed, each of the twin 48V PTO generators can generate up to 5kW of power. And when the engines reach cruising speed, this soars to 25kW for each engine or a whopping 50kW combined– indeed, enough to power a robust 100kWh lithium battery pack in merely two hours. Of course, an in-built water cooling system ensures that the system maintains optimal operational temperature.
One of the early adopters of the HPC is Turkish builder, Numarine. The boat-manufacturer offers it as a standard fit in its 88ft exploration yacht, the 27XP. This secures a full night of silent anchorage, with air-conditioning and stabilisers up and running, but sans the noise of the generator. And it’s not just limited to the night, the soundless operational delight extends into the day, promising a seamless and stunning boating experience.
Superlative efficiency is delivered by combining Sleipner’s Hybrid Power Centre with a high capacity 92.8kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) battery bank and a full suite of Sleipner dynamic aids, including 48V DC bow and stern thrusters along with electrical curved fin stabilisers. These enable the PTO generators to distribute the power where needed promptly and proficiently.
