Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS): Sweden’s Crown Jewel of Sailing
Founded in 1830, the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet – KSSS) is the oldest yacht club in Sweden and one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world. With a history spanning nearly two centuries, it is the beating heart of Scandinavian sailing, producing Olympic athletes, hosting world-class regattas, and maintaining a deeply embedded yachting culture across Sweden’s coastlines and islands.
Located in the Stockholm archipelago, with its headquarters in Saltsjöbaden and satellite facilities in Sandhamn and Lidingö, KSSS offers a uniquely Swedish blend of nature, performance, and maritime tradition. The club’s royal charter, granted in the 19th century, still holds today—underlining its high status both nationally and internationally.
World-Class Sailing and Regattas KSSS is the organiser of the Gotland Runt (formerly ÅF Offshore Race)—the largest offshore race in the Baltic Sea and a signature event on the European sailing calendar. The club also hosts numerous other high-level competitions, including World and European Championships in classes such as Optimist, ILCA, 49er, 29er, and ORC.
Its elite sailing program has trained some of Sweden’s top sailors, many of whom have gone on to compete in the Olympic Games, Volvo Ocean Race, and the America’s Cup. With a deep focus on youth development, KSSS maintains one of Europe’s strongest junior sailing fleets, offering year-round training in dinghies and keelboats.
