The World’s Oldest and Ireland’s Finest Yacht Club
Founded in 1720, the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) holds the title of the oldest yacht club in the world, a distinction it proudly carries with a deep sense of tradition, innovation, and sporting excellence. Nestled in the charming coastal town of Crosshaven, County Cork, the club overlooks Cork Harbour—one of the largest and most scenic natural harbours globally. RCYC is widely regarded as the crown jewel of Irish sailing, serving as both a cultural institution and a vibrant hub for competitive and recreational sailors.
A Historic and Active Sailing Community From its founding by William O’Brien, 9th Lord Inchiquin, to its modern reputation for hosting world-class regattas, the Royal Cork Yacht Club has played a pivotal role in the development of international yacht racing. Its members have been instrumental in shaping the global sailing scene, and the club continues to produce elite sailors, many of whom go on to represent Ireland on the Olympic and offshore circuits.
The RCYC calendar is filled with activity—from junior training and club races to international regattas. The club’s flagship event, Volvo Cork Week, is one of Europe’s most prestigious regattas, attracting hundreds of yachts from across the continent every two years.
