The Balboa Yacht Club is a cornerstone of the Southern California sailing scene, known for its competitive spirit, youth development programs, and picturesque setting at the mouth of Newport Harbor. Founded in 1922, BYC has grown into a vibrant, multigenerational club with a strong emphasis on community and Corinthian values.

Located in Corona del Mar, BYC’s harbour front clubhouse boasts panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the entrance to Newport Harbour. The club includes a full-service restaurant and bar, elegant lounges, a regatta room, and outdoor decks overlooking the water. Members have access to private slips, dry storage, junior sailing docks, and guest moorings. BYC also owns Moonstone Cove, a private outstation on Catalina Island that’s a favorite for cruising members.

BYC runs an active racing calendar, including prestigious regattas such as the Governor’s Cup (the premier international youth match racing event), the BYC Corinthian Cup, and the Sunkist Series. The club supports numerous fleets, including Harbour 20s, Sabots, Lido 14s, and J/70s, and regularly hosts national and international one-design championships.

The Junior Program is one of the strongest on the West Coast, offering year-round training and summer sailing camps. Many alumni have gone on to win collegiate titles and compete at Olympic levels. BYC’s sailing coaches and facilities are among the best in the region.

Beyond sailing, BYC maintains a busy calendar of social events, including Commodore’s Balls, wine tastings, family BBQs, and educational talks.
