Intricately Designed Beneteau Swift Trawler 54 Makes its UK Debut at the Southampton Boat Show

The Southampton Boat Show was home to the UK debut of an extraordinary sailing vessel, the Beneteau Swift Trawler 54. Originating from a long line of high-volume cruising boats, this vessel’s aesthetic is more in line with traditional stylings, standing apart from the opulence of superyacht-inspired models. But where this vessel truly shines is in its ingenious internal design. Rather than sticking with the norm of open-plan spaces, the Beneteau designers thought outside the box and compartmentalised each level, creating distinct zones for extra comfort, replicating the feeling of home on the water. The saloon alone boasts three sections - an upper dinette adjacent to the helm, a casual lower lounge with a coffee table, and a galley in between. The midships galley is separated from each space by a glass screen that doesn’t hamper communication or access to the port side deck through a sliding galley door. The deck levels’ delineation contributes to the sense of separate spaces, providing an opportunity to retreat and relax in tranquility. Below deck, a full-beam owner’s cabin features an ensuite bathroom and is accompanied by a forward VIP room, a port bunk room, and another bathroom. Though seeming somewhat formulaic on the surface, the intelligent design shines through upon deeper inspection. For instance, the port bunk room claims extra floor space with an L-shaped bed arrangement, superseding traditional vertical bunks and offering a more attractive setup for guests. Outside, the flybridge carries forward the zonal approach, offering space for toys, meals, and lounging. But what really sets this Trawler apart is the transformative aft deck, hinged to reveal a huge storage area for sea toys. This ‘Best Passagemaker’ at January’s MBY Awards is a Swift Trawler that deserves some serious appreciation for its design ingenuity and comfort.
