Francesca Clapcich Sets Sail on Unmatched Adventure in Her Inaugural Solo IMOCA Contest
“In daring to disturb the universe, Francesca Clapcich readies to make her mark as she leaps into her maiden solo race aboard an IMOCA. On May 3, 2026, this Italian-American virtuoso will take seven boats on an exhilarating 1,000-nautical mile loop from Port-la-Forêt in France, past the fabled Fastnet Rock and back to Concarneau.
‘I’m eager to brave the gusts the Bay of Biscay might send our way,’ Clapcich declared. ‘This race is a significant litmus test for my solo racing calendar, and the aim is to cross the finish line with the boat and myself in perfect harmony.’
The team, Francesca Clapcich Powered by 11th Hour Racing, has pulled together with a steely focus post an intense winter refit and performance upgrades. The snag? Outdo seven solo sailors, all eyeing the starting block of the 2028 edition and three of whom having already completed the Vendée Globe.
Carrying the torch of diversity and equality, Clapcich’s ambitions transcend the podium. She passionately advocates for a sailing community where everyone feels they belong, regardless of their gender or race. To punctuate her statement, her new livery, thanks to the support from 11th Hour Racing, incorporates a powerful message about their common mission: To inspire belief, belonging and achievement for all.
‘A leap isn’t just stepping up. It’s also about moving the world forward,’ Francesca loftily concluded. Her undying resolve serves as a beacon for aspiring adventurers eager to craft their nautical narratives, and her maiden voyage stands not just as a test of endurance and skill, but also as a powerful testament to the strength of her spirit and the change she seeks to sail forth.’
