Australian sailing crews have just sailed into the spotlight after a successful performance at the 49er, 49erFX & Nacra 17 World Championships.

The Australian crews have found their wind at the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships held in Quiberon, France. The championship’s diverse weather conditions provided challenging tracks, testing the mettle of the best Olympic sailors. The competitive week has presented marginal winds, shifty conditions, and brutal survival races.

Harry Price and Max Paul, the proficient pair of the Australian 49er crew, instilled excitement entering the final stages of the racing event in medal contention. Thrillingly, they held the second overall position. A nerve-wracking Finals Day saw an incredibly tight leaderboard, with almost the entire top 10 in contention for the podium. The final downwind leg of the course saw a rearrange in the standings. Despite their well-fought campaign, the pair ended at sixth overall at the conclusion of racing.

In the Nacra 17 class, Australia marked success with two Australian crews making the top-10 Final Series. Archie Gargett and Sarah Hoffman won the opening race and followed by a second-place finish, landed in fourth overall.

On the other end, the journey for fellow squad members Brin Liddell and Rhiannan Brown on the Nacra 17 has been a roller coaster ride. They had days of dominating victories followed by struggles, including in the challenging Finals, but ultimately ended tenth overall in the race.

Even in the 49erFX fleet, Australia didn’t shy away from impressing with Laura Harding and Annie Wilmot qualifying for Gold Fleet racing right at the start of the Championship successfully. This championship provided both the opportunity and the platform for the Australian crews to showcase their sailing prowess.
