Victory on the Waves: The All-Women Coral World Team Triumphs in Annual USVI Tourism Regatta

The waters of the U.S. Virgin Islands bore witness to a triumphant victory, as the all-women Coral World Team aced the 7th Annual USVI Hotel & Tourism Association Regatta.

When the seven bells rang out on the ninth of May, five fabulously enthusiastic teams found their positions on the emerald waters of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The 7th Annual Hotel & Tourism Association Regatta, an event that fuels the spirit of competitiveness and camaraderie among the territory’s hospitality and tourism industry, was in full swing, hosted by the prestigious St. Thomas Yacht Club and Sailing Center.

On this day, teams raced aboard the Center’s one-design IC24s, completing a series of competitive races that tested their sailing prowess, communication, teamwork and the very essence of the territory’s marine tourism product. Emerging triumphant was the Coral World’s all-women team, who outshone everyone to claim first place with an impressive haul of 5 points.

Hot on the Coral World team’s heels was Margaritaville team, who secured the dignified second place with a commendable 13 points. A spirited team made up of Mahlon Monsanto, Alique Briggs, Augustine Schneider, and K’Quadeem Christopher improved on their performance from the previous year.

A familiar face graced the third-place podium once again as the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism team defended their position with an earned 16 points. The team, made up of Alani Henneman-Todman, Ian Turnbull, Wilbert Smith, and Tanya Duran, raced aboard One Love, reaffirming their love and passion for sailing. This exhilarating spectacle was a testament to not only the spirit of competition but the sheer joy and unity invoked by the caress of the sea breeze and the thrill of the race.
