Inverting Convention, Lagaria Reveals 90m Superyacht Concept 'Platea' as an Open-Air Club at Sea

Published: 03 Jun 2026
The innovative design studio Lagaria, thriving in Monaco, presents a revolutionary superyacht concept, identified as Platea, where the outdoor experience is king.

Monaco-based design trailblazers Lagaria has just removed the curtain from their fresh, remarkably inclusive and forward-thinking superyacht concept, fittingly named Platea. The brainchild of founders Magnus Naglestad and Adeline Lagaria, Platea impeccably encapsulates their unique belief that the most memorable yacht experiences absolutely occur on deck and in the enchanting embrace of the open sea air. Platea eschews conventional yacht designs that aim to stuff the hull with enclosed space. Instead, it boasts a disruptive inverted layout that amplifies the importance of exterior deck areas. The yacht’s main deck becomes the pivotal element of its form, forming an impressive, expansive social area that imitates an over water beach club. This groundbreaking design begins at the stern with an open-plan bar, lounge, and dining area that effortlessly converges into a secluded grand terrace. The terrace continues the tale of luxury with an expansive pool, a jacuzzi, and another full bar service. The yacht also accommodate a convenient helipad on the elevated foredeck to elevate user experience and access. Designers chose to relegate all guest accommodations to the lower deck. This insightful design decision was grounded in the aim to allocate prime deck-side space for social spaces that animate the yacht throughout the day. Further thoughtful design decisions include the aft bridge placement. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian well-boat design, the move frees up the yacht’s heart for a generous social zone, which simultaneously minimizes enclosed volume and gives full operational visibility via large wing stations. The owner’s quarters consist of a private balcony-holding apartment located aft. Platea’s gross weight is about 20% lower than similar superyachts, achieved by prioritizing experiential quality over interior volume. The novelty of its layout combined with intelligent spatial prioritization results in a refreshingly unique concept that, according to its creators, commands a higher charter revenue per gross tonnage than others. Platea stands as an emblem of change, a symbol of what can emerge when common expectations are overturned and new questions asked. The result truly sets it apart from anything else skimming the waves. Its design efficiency speaks volumes. Despite its internal volume being less, it compensates in terms of impeccable oceanic experience. Lagaria’s modernistic mould-breaking approach, previously glimpsed in their collaborative work with Turkish shipyard RMK Yachts on the highly lauded ‘Orca 58’, promises to continually redefine the meaning of luxury at sea, making sailing a uniquely immersive celebration of life’s finest pleasures.
