Nico Lunven Recaptures Northern Hemisphere in Vendée Globe Race, Sails through Doldrums

Sailing magnate Nico Lunven brings his boat Holcim-PRB back to the Northern Hemisphere during the intense Vendée Globe competition.

Nicolas Lunven, the daredevil sailor, recently marked his triumphant return to the Northern Hemisphere during the thrilling Vendée Globe challenge. Having effectively traversed the notorious Doldrums, Lunven continues to stay the course and vie for contention in one of the world’s most gruelling yacht races. As the overall winner, Charlie Dalin, jubilantly disembarked in Les Sables d’Olonne, the race among the pursuers intensified. Lunven, navigating through the night, managed to conquer the Intertropical Convergence Zone, which is known to thwart even seasoned mariners. Lunven, however, dealt with it as though it was another day at the office. Since yesterday, he found merriment in navigating close to the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Islands marking his arrival in the Northern Hemisphere. Surviving the nerve-wracking Doldrums, Lunven attested to the vicissitudes, comparing it to someone toyishly tampering with a fan, adjusting the intensity, and setting it to spin in all directions. But the wind never lost strength, providing him with a persistent 10-12 knots of wind, demanding constant trimming and course adjusting, but always propelling him forward. Having cleared the erratic cloud zones, he still battles the ceaselessly fluctuating wind, making rest elusive. As the sun rose, he needed a brief pause to address an issue with his J2 tack. However, once resolved and back on his course, he contended with hard-hitting 28 knots of wind, shifting 50 degrees. The sudden chaos ensued, the boat heaving and plunging in the undulating waves. Lunven’s adventure continues, demonstrating his undying spirit to sail in pursuit of glory in the Vendée Globe.
