Taipan of Wales: Sale of Historic 37m Pendennis Ketch Masterminded by Dubois and Disdale
Taipan of Wales, a renowned bluewater performance ketch with a history as impressive as its design, has recently changed hands. Instrumental in this sale were Zancle 757, introducing the buyer, and Alastair Shove of Carrswood Yachts, representing the seller. With its impressive form dating from 1991, this 37.4-metre marvel is the work of British shipyard Pendennis.
This sailing yacht is the fruit of a unique collaboration between Ed Dubois, credited with her sophisticated naval architecture, and Terence Disdale, responsible for her luxurious interior. The entire construction is clad in aluminium, capturing a sense of timeless elegance. Over the years, this ketch has witnessed numerous refits, including a substantial deck replacement in 2015, encapsulating the allure of yesteryears in a modern aura.
The forward-facing seats in the spacious deck saloon offer a commanding view, complemented by an open lower saloon with a dining area. The catering services are facilitated by the Miele Professional equipment-studded galley and laundry. Its foredeck comes with a quick fill Jacuzzi pool, a perfect option for those seeking relaxation.
On her 4,700 nautical mile range, the vessel guarantees solid performance at sea, with a top speed of 12.5 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots, powered by a single 543hp MTU diesel. Taipan of Wales also benefits from in-boom Reckmann furling and carbon-fibre spars installed in 2006. Other amenities include a Williams 565 DieselJet tender and Scubapro dive equipment.
This iconic sailing yacht, symbolizing the timeless charm of classic crafts, continues to create ripples in the yachting world, proving that age is just a number.
